About the culinary bike tour from Bruges to Damme We cycle from Bruges to Damme along the famous historical canal de Damse vaart (the canal was dug by order of Napoleon) in small groups of maximum 15 persons. Each group is accompanied by a guide. Along the way we take dinner or lunch in 3 different restaurants (first course – main course – dessert). Every restaurants has its own atmosphere and offers regional specialities. We start near the Market Square and cycle along the charming canals, the remparts and windmills of Bruges. Before leaving Bruges we take our first course in a typical restaurant near the Dampoort. We recommend the delicious shrimp croquettes Next we cycle direction Damme. We make a short stop on the Market Square where our guide(s) will give a brief explanation of the role of Damme in history and we pass along the main sightseeing places such as the beautiful Town Hall and Our Lady Church. We gather in small groups and make a 2 hours bicycle tour on a tandem through the fascinating countryside of the Lys. Each group is accompanied by a guide who will give a brief explanation of the most interesting and beautiful sights. The idyllic villages of Sint-Martens-Latem and Deurle gained their international reputation thanks to the great number of artists that settled here during the first half of the 20th century. Artists such as Albijn Van den Abeele, Valerius De Saedeleer, Constant Permeke, Gust and Leon De Smet, Albert Servaes, George Minne, Gustave and Karel van de Woestijne, Fritz Van den Berghe and so many others have worked here and formed a sort of ‘artists colony’ called rather erroneously the ‘Latem School’.
